Suzanne was an inspirational guest speaker at one of our previous Lawyers’ BD Club events in London (May 2013) so I’m very excited about Suzanne speaking to us again and sharing some lessons she has learnt during her career.
Suzanne’s Biography
Suzanne is a Board Member, General Counsel, Company Secretary and Senior Vice President with fifteen years board level experience, having worked on the Executive Committees of three very different companies.
She has recently retired from her role as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development at Japan Tobacco International, based in Geneva. In this role Suzanne’s responsibilities included Corporate Sustainability, Corporate Communications, Fiscal Affairs & Anti-Illicit Trade and Public Affairs.
She managed a $94M budget and team of 450 based in over 40 countries, developed a group wide sustainability strategy, transformed the risk management function and led JTI to achieve recognized leader status in many ESG areas.
Previously she was Group General Counsel & Company Secretary at Network Rail, where she embedded a new Code of Business Ethics and Transparency Strategy and led the legal team that brought the company onto the Government’s balance sheet. As an Executive Committee member, Suzanne was responsible for Legal & Company Secretarial Services, Transparency & Business Ethics, Freedom of Information, Business Change and Information Governance.
Earlier Suzanne was the General Counsel at Premier Foods and during her time at Premier Foods she extended her responsibilities to include Communications, Internal Audit and CSR.
Her early career began in private practice, moving swiftly in house.
Suzanne was an amazing guest speaker at one of our previous Lawyers’ BD Club events in London. Many of our guests at that time described Suzanne as an “inspirational speaker” with one guest saying:
“I found the talk this morning to be quite inspirational. It has given me a real motivation to think seriously about the direction of my career as well as giving me the kick start I needed to get out and network more with both existing contacts as well as developing new ones. Loved the feminist slant to the talk.”
