Matthew Fawcett
Senior Vice President & General Counsel for NetApp
As senior vice president, general counsel, chief compliance counsel, and secretary for NetApp, Matthew Fawcett is responsible for all legal affairs worldwide, including corporate governance and securities law compliance, intellectual property matters, contracts, and mergers and acquisitions. He has overseen the transformation of NetApp’s global legal department into a high-performance organization with a unique commitment to innovation.
As one of the leading voices on the intersection of law, technology, and business, Matthew was named “One of America’s Top 50 General Counsels” by the National Law Journal and is widely recognized for redefining the role of legal counsel in the modern corporation. He is a frequent speaker at international and national legal and technology trade conferences and writes regularly on the topics of innovation in the legal industry, managing data governance in the cloud era, and defending against patent trolls.
Before joining NetApp, Matthew was the senior vice president and general counsel of JDS Uniphase Corporation, where he built a worldwide legal organization, managed dozens of acquisitions and strategic transactions, and oversaw a patent program with thousands of issued and pending patents.
Matthew is on the General Counsel Steering Committee for the National Association of Corporate Board Directors and the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley as well as the Board of the Association of Corporate Counsel.
He received his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law and a B.A from the University of California, Berkeley.

Managing Partner of ByrneWallace
Catherine Guy has been Managing Partner of ByrneWallace since 2012. She previously led the firm’s Property and Construction teams and has a strong track record in large scale commercial development projects.
Catherine works with a wide range of clients and has extensive experience advising on acquisition, investment, and development transactions. These include land acquisition and sales, mixed-use development schemes, significant commercial development schemes and tax investments. Her role as adviser has also included project management and coordination of multi-disciplinary project teams.
