Matthew Fawcett
Biography
Matthew Fawcett is NetApp’s senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary. Matt leads the worldwide legal team.
Under his leadership, NetApp’s legal team has been recognized for many achievements, including the Best Legal Department of 2014 (Best Legal Departments 2014, Corporate Counsel, June 1, 2014), one of the most innovative departments (The 2013 IC-10: Inside the Legal Profession’s Top Innovators, Inside Counsel Magazine, August 30, 2013), and as a top GC (America’s 50 Outstanding General Counsel, The National Law Journal, March 31, 2014).
Matthew has advised leading technology companies on a variety of issues, including mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, and litigation.

Brett M. Schuman
Brett Schuman, head of the Litigation Department for Goodwin Procter’s California offices and a partner in the firm’s IP Litigation Group, focuses his practice on patent and other IP litigation in all of the federal and state courts in California, the Eastern District of Texas, the Eastern District of Virginia, the District of Delaware, and in the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Schuman’s patent litigation practice comprises patent cases on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants across the technology industry. He serves as lead partner and lead trial counsel in patent infringement litigation matters involving mobile phone technology, broadband communications technology, semiconductor fabrication and circuitry, wearables and pharmaceuticals. He has also served as lead counsel in several litigations involving patent license agreements. He also is admitted pro hac vice with respect to numerous post-grant review proceedings at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (“PTAB”), and he has argued in final hearings there.
Mr. Schuman’s practice also comprises copyright and trade secret litigation, including trade secret litigation relating to employee mobility and trade secret litigation between competitors. Mr. Schuman also counsels clients regarding trade secret and related matters where there is no litigation pending.
Shane Brun
Shane Brun, a partner in Goodwin Procter’s IP Litigation Group, is a PTO-registered intellectual property litigator with a background in industrial engineering and semiconductor manufacturing. He has extensive experience representing major technology companies, both as plaintiffs and defendants, in patent litigation and other intellectual property and technology-related matters, including trade secret and trademark litigation. His IP practice involves a wide range of technologies, including Internet security, computer networking, wireless communications, microlithography, plasma displays, optical alignment, inspection systems, and digital imaging. Mr. Brun has a national practice and regularly represents clients before the International Trade Commission (ITC) and U.S. District Courts in California, Texas and Delaware. Mr. Brun also frequently advises firm clients on various intellectual property issues, including in connection with M&A and financial transactions.
Mr. Brun has also served as in-house counsel to public technology companies NBC Internet and OpenTV. He represented these companies in M&A transactions and in the formation of strategic partnerships; negotiated a broad range of commercial agreements, including licensing technology and intellectual property rights; procured patent rights for company products and services; advised company executives on regulatory issues, SEC filings and other public disclosures; oversaw human resources and employment matters; and hired and managed outside counsel.
